In episode 340, astrologers Chris Brennan and Lisa Shaim discuss whether the preferred sign for astrologers is “astrologer” or “astrologer” and why it matters.
The impetus for this discussion is that there is some confusion among non-astrologers about the preferred word usage.
In general, the preferred sign is “astrologer”, which is the word used and often preferred by the majority of practitioners today.
During the episode, we look at three informal social media polls that show that 90-99% of astrologers prefer the term “astrologer” to “astrologer.”
Despite the widespread preference for the term astrologer, some social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and recently Twitter have made it so that practitioners can only choose the term “astrologer” when listing their profession.
Thus, part of the purpose of this discussion is to inform the general public about this issue.
While there are some astrologers who occasionally use the term astrologer, and that’s fine, the purpose of this discussion is to clarify that since most practitioners prefer the term astrologer, this word should be used by non-astrologers when referring to the profession.
This discussion is based in part on an article Chris wrote in 2014 Is it an astrologer or an astrologer?
