Is being strong good or bad?

Pick any great, powerful historical figure admired by a large group of people and study them in depth. You will soon find out that they have a dark side. It’s rare to find a strong man who isn’t domineering, controlling, aggressive, or arrogant. Unhealthy power.

Unhealthy strength is usually a rigidity caused by trauma from early life experiences where a person felt weak. They are at a serious disadvantage and are now overcompensating. Overcompensating is rarely healthy and often ends up trampling other people, often to the detriment of oneself.

You can be forward-looking and past-fixing at the same time. Nothing wrong with acknowledging your motivation comes from a dark place as long as it manifests in healthy ways.

The danger of being strong

Life is a competition. When you are strong, others see you as a strong opponent. They are scared of youand there’s a good chance they’ll dislike, resent, or even hate you. They may try to bring you down in overt or covert ways. They can’t be friends with you or work with you because they think helping you is hurting themselves. So it’s helpful to think about contexts where your strong personality might rub others the wrong way.

Of course, not being strong is not an option. This lowers self-esteem and self-esteem, which puts you at risk of suicide attempts. What you can do is tone it down a bit with your friends and family who want a cooperative rather than competitive mode. Things like avoiding too much bragging can help.

You also run the risk of becoming domineering, aggressive, and arrogant. After all, it’s hard not to think you’re better than everyone else. Try to reframe this idea by reminding them that people have different definitions of success and different values. You may be better than someone in one or two ways, but they may be better than you in many other ways that you may or may not care about.
