In episode 412, astrologer Demetra George joins the podcast to talk about the connection between the ancient Mesopotamian goddess Inanna, the retrograde cycle of Venus, and the movie Barbie!
During the episode, we talk about the ancient Mesopotamian myth of the goddess Inanna’s descent into the underworld and how it relates to the synodic cycle of Venus and specifically the retrograde phase of Venus.
I saw a talk in 2005 that linked the myth of Demeter to Inanna with Venus retrograde, and then I was really surprised to see a number of parallels with the myth in the recent Barbie movie when Venus was retrograde.

Demetra and I have been talking about this a lot over the past few weeks and decided to write an episode on it to delve deeper into some of the ancient myths surrounding the Venus retrograde cycle and talk about their relevance today.
In the process, we covered a lot of interesting things and touched on a number of important and fascinating figures, including the first author in history to sign his name to his works, Enheduanna, priestess of Inanna, who lived around 2300 BC.
So this episode builds a bit on a previous discussion Demetra and I had earlier this year Heliodora and the Early History of Women in Astrology.
