Penelope Sitter joins the show to discuss the life and work of 17th-century astrologer Jean-Baptiste Morin de Villefranche and a new translation of his work.
Morin was a French astrologer who lived at the same time as William Lilly and who wrote a large book on astrology. Gallic Astrologyi.e. French Astrology.
Penelope has just translated Morin’s 21st book from the Latin. Gallic Astrologyhere he outlines his unique approach to chart synthesis.
After being introduced to Morin’s work through the work of Robert Corré in the 2000s, Penelope was so excited that she actually studied Latin to translate Morin’s text.
During the episode, we talk about Morin’s life and work, then explore his technique and discuss what makes his approach interesting and different compared to some of his contemporaries.
Along the way, we’ll talk about his birth chart and personality, and use his chart a few times to illustrate the technical approach he takes in his work.
This was an interesting discussion introducing an important but often overlooked astrologer who was the last great court astrologer in France before the science of astrology declined in the 17th century.
