Full moons: opportunities to combine opposites
Once a month, full moons illuminate what is hidden underground. When the moon is fully illuminated by the light of the sun, we are able to see more clearly what was previously obscure or unconscious.
The Sun and the Moon are opposite each other, forming an angle of 180º from our point of view to the Earth. In astrology, It is an aspect of light and polarization, with great potential for resolving conflicts and integration, as well as a stronger temptation to project onto others what we do not accept in ourselves. With contradictions it is easy to take one side and deny the other and Our task today is to remember that opposites are complementary, two sides of the same coin, and the need to unite the two.
The Taurus-Scorpio polarity takes center stage this week: While Taurus teaches us to preserve what we’ve created, Scorpio urges us to let it go with grace. It is a dance of creation and destruction, life and death, holding and letting go. Aimed at building foundations and creating more stability in our lives throughout the year, We are being asked to recognize what must be destroyed to make room for the next creation.
Full Moon in Scorpio: Allowing Transformation to Happen
Moon in Scorpio feels strong and deep. Under this lunation, it becomes difficult to escape, and what we try to sweep under the rug may surface and demand our immediate attention. Emotions are raw and visceral, and the invitation for us is to experience them without intellectualizing them.
The Taurus-Scorpio axis is about security, survival and resistance to change, change and change. Money, sexuality, and values, as well as ownership and energy exchange, are Taurus and Scorpio topics that may require attention today. This polarity invites us to reflect on our relationship with stability and control, and where we can let go, trust, and grow.
In Taurus season, the Scorpio Full Moon highlights areas where we are too comfortable and change needs to happen. It is a time when uncomfortable truths can emerge and we have the opportunity to gain new, deeper understanding of issues of trust, vulnerability, connection and power dynamics, and release what has been suppressed or neglected.
Full Moon square Pluto
The Scorpio Full squares its ruler Pluto in Aquarius. Named after the mythological Lord of the Underworld, Pluto in astrology is the catalyst for our transformational processes that relate to the unconscious layer of the psyche, deep wounds and attachments, and our soul’s evolutionary intentions during this lifetime.
Pluto’s activation encourages us to confront the deeper layers of our emotional patterns and uncover the true motivations behind our instinctive, automatic reactions. Square Pluto brings out the needs, desires, and fears that we are not consciously aware of, but that drive us subconsciously. This aspect reveals what needs to be alchemized and transformed and asks us to bring light to our shadows, what we are ashamed of, what we hide, and the gifts and talents we do not yet possess and develop. It invites us to take responsibility for how we react and to be interested in why we are triggered by certain events rather than others.
These days we have choices where we can control or subtly manipulate outcomes, avoid vulnerability, hide how we really feel, and deal more consciously with change and discomfort. This configuration asks us to connect with our strongest desires, the desires that scare us, and to take deep-seated pain and transform it, releasing the energy we used to suppress it.
Also, both Venus and Uranus square the Moon’s nodes. This configuration can reveal repressed memories from our past and old traumas, particularly from relationships around us, giving us the opportunity to integrate parts of ourselves that have been separated from us or stuck in earlier stages of development.
Full Moon quincunx Venus and Saturn, trine Jupiter and the North Node
The Scorpio Full Moon is the focal point of boomerang Yod and includes Venus and Saturn, both quincunx the Moon, as well as the Sun in Taurus. Yodes are configurations that include two planets that are sextile to each other and both have a third planet. Quincuncles are aspects of paradox and opposition, while sextiles support the effective integration of various functions. These are rare configurations, called fates, and are often associated with turning points and meaningful changes.
The activation of Venus and Saturn indicates that issues of relationships, finances, boundaries, and commitment are front and center, and emotional and relational adjustments are needed. The Moon-Venus quincunx can highlight a disconnect between what we feel and how we give or receive love. These days, there may be tension between emotional needs and relational needs, while patterns of overgiving and people-pleasing may reach a point of no return. We have the opportunity to reexamine how we interact with others and to feel what we need and honestly.
Saturn’s square to the Moon highlights tendencies toward emotional suppression and misplaced guilt, emphasizes the need for appropriate boundaries, and calls us to take responsibility for what we have, rather than taking on what belongs to others. This aspect suggests a more conscious engagement with duty and emotional labor and asks us to distinguish between genuine responsibility and patterns based on fear or obligation.
The Sun in Taurus is the decision point of Yod. It invites us to be more deeply in touch with our feelings, emotions and needs, to develop a deeper connection with ourselves and our bodies, and to relate to other people from that place. This placement is an invitation to slow down and connect with our center, return to our values, prioritize what nourishes us, and make choices that support our well-being.
Mars squares Jupiter and conjuncts Saturn
As the Scorpio Full Moon peaks, Scorpio’s ancient ruler Mars approaches a square to Jupiter in Cancer and breaks from a conjunction with Saturn. Mars is strongly placed in its Aries home, and as it separates from Saturn, more vitality, energy and momentum are available to us. In recent weeks, Mars has conjunct Neptune and Saturn, slowing Mars’ impulse to act in the moment and follow instinct.
As Mars separates from Saturn, it approaches a square to Jupiter in Cancer, which heightens feelings of restlessness and a desire to take risks. This square can fuel our impulsiveness and desire to act quickly, sometimes without fully considering the emotional or practical consequences. At the same time, it will give you a boost of confidence and motivation that may have been lacking in the last few days. The Mars-Jupiter square encourages us to move forward boldly and channel our energy into purposeful actions.
Full Moon in Scorpio: Alchemize the Past
The Full Moon in Scorpio asks us to release our resistance to change and trust the process of change. When intense emotions arise, we are able to give them space, to feel them fully, without reacting to them immediately, suppressing them, rationalizing them, or pretending they are not there. It is an invitation to be present with what arises, to observe the patterns in our lives with honesty and compassion, and to allow our process of change to unfold at its own pace.
This full moon is a time to release what we have outgrown and keep us small: it is a time to realize how we relate to power, our own and others, and how we may feel tempted to give ours away. It is an opportunity to face the uncomfortable and empower ourselves by understanding what is repeating itself and why. We are asked to alchemize past pain that binds us and to develop greater emotional stability, becoming masters of our emotions instead of being enslaved by them.
