On May 6, 2026 at 11:34 AM EST, Pluto stations retrograde at 5º30′ of Aquarius. Since March 20th, all the planets have been in direct motion, and Pluto will be the first to change its direction, slowing down the advance and inviting us on a journey of inner transformation.
The Lord of the Underworld is retrograde until October 15th, giving us an opportunity to shift our focus from external changes to what is changing within us.
The movement of Pluto is especially important for people born with planets or angles in Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius). These individuals are going through a turning point in personal changes and shady business trips. They are asked to free themselves from the control and attachment of fixed ideas and to consciously engage with the changes occurring in their lives.
Pluto in Aquarius: From Old to New Paradigms
Named after the mythological Lord of the Underworld, Pluto allows us to turn pain into power and evolve on a Soul level. This planet asks us to turn the unconscious into consciousness and uncover the wounds, traumas and shadows at the root of our choices and actions.
The modern ruler of Scorpio is associated with our true desires that come from our hearts, as well as the hidden, indirect ways we try to satisfy our security needs. Collectively, Pluto transits indicate the direction of humanity’s evolutionary process, emphasizing generational cycles and profound changes in societal systems and structures. The disintegration of old paradigms provided by transits of Pluto allows the emergence of new ones along with a global shift in consciousness.
Pluto entered Aquarius for the last time on November 19, 2024 and will remain in the water sign until 2044. We’re still in the early stages of this transit, one that’s meant to revolutionize the way we connect with each other, participate in collective spaces, and engage with technology and science. Pluto in Aquarius reveals and changes power dynamics within groups, revealing imbalances in existing systems while encouraging radical innovation in the way we collaborate and connect.
This transit emphasizes issues of conformity, belonging, and shared responsibility within groups and social systems, asking us to redefine what it means to be both an individual and an integral part of society and society.
Pluto Retrograde: Deepening Our Self-Observation
The Lord of the Underworld slowed down and gradually stopped, until now stationary retrograde. Motionless planets are closer to Earth and their energy is felt more strongly: therefore, unconscious, previously suppressed psychological and emotional material can surface and demand our attention these days.
Retrograde planets ask us to turn more of our energy inward and uncover the deeper purpose and meaning of recent and past events.. The deepening of our introspection that occurs during retrogrades accelerates the evolutionary process and helps us gain a deeper emotional and psychological self-awareness.
When Pluto is retrograde, we have an opportunity to reflect on our relationship to power, change, and evolution. During this time, we have the opportunity to notice how evolution is required of us, the nature of the fears that arise, the desires and needs that we are ashamed of and hide, and how we can resist transformation and avoid desired ends. This transit calls for deeper self-observation and invites us to approach change more consciously.
Pluto Retrograde in Aquarius: Inner Change
Pluto’s retrograde journey through Aquarius is an opportunity to dig deeper into our inner workings, engage with our resistances and aversions, and learn how Life is asking us to evolve now. This transit supports a gradual but profound shift in consciousness: it invites us to reexamine the past and recognize its current impact on our psychological and emotional nature.
Old fears, attachments, and control patterns can surface, and we can understand how social narratives and expectations shape our choices and desires behind the scenes.
This transit is an invitation to change our perceptions of the future, to ask not only what, but why we act, and to ask ourselves where our desires come from, what our true intentions are.. It’s an opportunity to recognize the deeper impact of our relationship to technology and social media and the way we engage in collective action.
Rebuilding our agency
Although Pluto is retrograde in a watery sign, we have the opportunity to become more aware of underlying patterns and power dynamics within friendships, organizations, and communities. We can recognize the influence of pure or unspoken dynamics involving control or manipulation to belong and conform.
The question is not simply whether we conform to or defy society’s demands and norms, but whether this response is truly conscious. Ultimately, we are asked to take responsibility for how we think, what we share, and how we participate in our communities, and to recognize our impact and influence on our networks and vice versa.
Pluto’s retrograde journey through Aquarius is an opportunity to reclaim our agency and learn to be a part of something bigger and bigger than ourselves without defining ourselves by a role or label and losing our individuality and uniqueness in the process.
