Celebrating the birthday of Vettius Valens

Episode 388 is a recording of a one-hour webinar by Chris Brennan and Jenn Zahrt where we celebrated the life and work of the 2nd century astrologer Vettius Valens on his 1903 birthday last Wednesday.

The webinar was hosted by Jenn Zahrt of the CAELi Institute, an astrological research library open to the public in Olympia, Washington.

Jenn helped me print last year Valens translation by Mark Rileyand this entire anthology was published in English for the first time.

During this episode, we’ll talk about Valens’ life and work, and then answer some questions from the live audience who attended that day.

As this episode was recorded in the middle of the week, there was much discussion about Vettius Valens regarding the house division debate, which was also addressed.

see previous episodes 386 and 387 for more context on this debate.

I wanted to release this entry because it represents part of the discussion that week and may help people understand the 2nd century astrologer that has recently become one of the focal points of this discussion.

Unfortunately, another major event that happened this week was a major earthquake in Turkey and Syria, and one of the cities destroyed was the birthplace of Vettius Valens, Antakya, Turkey, the ancient city of Antioch.

Several charities have been set up to help fund the earthquake relief efforts and I have already donated and I encourage all of my viewers and listeners to find a charity and donate to the relief efforts if you can.
