Astrology in Psychotherapy – The Astrology Podcast

In episode 418, astrologer Shawna Marie McGrath joins me to talk about incorporating astrology into psychotherapy and explains what it looks like to use astrology as a tool in a therapeutic context.

The premise of the episode is that despite the vast literature on psychological astrology, astrology is rarely discussed in psychotherapy.

Almost all literature written on the subject of therapeutic astrology focuses on “counseling skills for astrologers” or “how to read a birth chart therapeutically.”

While these are valuable topics, don’t overlook the practical applications of astrology in therapy over time (what it looks like, what clinicians/clients need to know, what are the pros, cons, risks, etc.).

That’s what we’re talking about in this episode of “What Does It Look Like to Incorporate Astrology into Psychotherapy?” We aim to discuss by answering the question.

In this context, we approach astrology as a tool for psychotherapists to conceptualize and understand their client, and astrology is used more openly as a psychotherapeutic tool in direct discussion with the client.

We also discuss a number of ethical considerations related to the use of astrology in psychotherapy and discuss some pros and cons to help identify situations in which astrology may or may not be appropriate.

Shawna is a psychotherapist and astrologer based in California, and you can learn more about her work on her website:
