A clear new moon: Friday, April 17, 2026, 7:51 AM ET
The sun at 27° Aries | Moon Aries at 27 °
With six of the ten major planets in Aries, including the Sun and Moon, this New Moon can carry a fresh, primal energy. Aries is the sign of the warrior, so while vitality and mobility are high, so is the potential to act on raw, instinctive impulse.
New moons mark beginnings – points of restoration and renewal. With all the planets moving direct now and Uranus preparing to move into Gemini in the coming years, there is a sense that life is speeding up, calling for forward movement and bold action.
Essentially, this New Moon asks: How do you use your energy?
Aries energy spectrum
Aries energy exists on a spectrum. On one side is the Greek mythological character Ares (Mars in Roman mythology), who embodies instinct, impulse, and unfiltered willpower. This expression is known for taking risks, seizing the moment, and acting quickly, but patience and short-sightedness are also possible.
On the other side is the Greek Athena, the goddess of strategy and wisdom. It represents a more nuanced expression of Aries energy – still decisive and action-oriented, but guided by experience, intention and thoughtful planning.

How this manifests in the new moon in the Aries chart
This spectrum is especially relevant now. The planet Mars is also in Aries, which it rules, forming a conjunction applied to Saturn. While this combination can feel tense in a team, it also offers the potential for determination, resilience, and focused action.
This is the difference between acting impulsively and acting purposefully.
Thinking and reasoning
This new moon invites you to reflect on how you manage your life force.
Where is your energy going right now? Do you focus it on a specific target or spread it in many directions? Are you building something stable or figuring out what needs to be released?
Even during periods of silence or transition, energy is consumed. The question is, is it consciously expressed?
Notice whether you’re moving into reactive patterns—out of frustration, impatience, or impulse—and then need to recalibrate. Or are you stepping into a more deliberate approach where movement is based on precision and endurance?
The Mars-Saturn influence supports the latter: steady action, emotional regulation, and the ability to move forward without burning out or falling apart.
Instead of giving way to anger or urgency, this is an opportunity to develop patience and self-control – to act not only quickly, but wisely.

Cross-cultural reflection
In different cultures we see the same archetypal spectrum reflected. In Greek mythology, Ares and Athena represent strategy against instinct.
In Celtic mythology, the warrior Cú Chulainn embodies raw, uncontrollable power, while his martial arts teacher Scatax represents discipline and skill.
These similarities remind us that it is not energy itself, but how it is directed.
A final insight
This new moon in Aries is not only about starting a movement, but about improving it. This is the time to align your willpower with your intention and choose a version that will enhance, not drain, your power.
