Apr 17, 2026 7:51 am EST, The new moon at 27º28′ in Aries brings about a re-energization and ushers in a new lunar month focused on healing through action. As the first New Moon of the New Astrological Year, which occurs in the first sign of the Zodiac, this month’s energy is particularly powerful, bringing a powerful wave of renewal into our lives. Closely conjunct Chiron and Eris, the Aries New Moon begins a new chapter in our healing journey and challenges us to speak the truth, even when it’s deeply uncomfortable.
The Aries New Moon is especially important for people born with a personal placement in the last degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) and the first degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius). These people have the opportunity to confront old avoidance, self-doubt, and fear of action and initiate changes that allow them to align with their True Self.

New months: opportunities to start over
Once a month, the Sun and Moon cross paths and their conjunction sets in motion a new lunar cycle. As the night darkens and the Moon is not yet visible, its conjunction with the Sun invites us to plant new seeds and trust that they will grow in time. Before the moon begins to light the night again, we have an opportunity to turn inward and clarify our direction and intentions for the coming days, weeks, and months.
This month, the luminaries meet at 27º Aries, opening a lunar cycle focused on starting over, renewing our lives and welcoming the new. As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries is associated with birth and the emergence of individual identity. Living in the moment, Aries, is all about initiation, moving forward, and action: the New Moon in Aries is powerful enough to launch new endeavors and start something radically new, radically different.
There are currently eight celestial bodies in Aries: in addition to the Sun, Moon, Chiron and Eris, in the early degrees of the sign we also have Mars, Saturn, Mercury and Neptune. This unusual concentration of planets emphasizes the energy of Aries and invites us to balance it by consciously gravitating to the sign of Libra. While Aries is associated with action, assertiveness and decision-making, Libra encourages us to slow down. reminding us to consider the interaction of our actions and choices.
New Moon in Aries: a call to action
With so many planets in Aries, the call to action is clear as day: this is not the time to overthink or overanalyze life. This is the time to put things into motion, to experiment without fear of making mistakes, to learn by doing. This can be a powerful moment to learn a new approach to chronic problems or situations where we hesitate to assert ourselves, reclaim our authority, or set clear boundaries. The Aries New Moon reminds us that we are allowed to want what we want and allows us to act in that direction.
At the same time, Aries energy moves very quickly and can be unnecessarily destructive and careless. When it is as popular as it is now, it reflects a tendency toward disruptive impulsivity and out-of-place reactivity. It is always wise to be aware of the motives behind our actions. The suggestion for us these days is to make sure we act deliberately and in pure connection with our desires rather than out of desperation, impatience, urgency or a need to prove something.
The New Moon conjuncts Chiron and Eris
Closely associated with Chiron, the celestial body named after the mythological Wounded Healer, this New Moon is a powerful start to a new chapter in our healing journey. Chiron activation can bring old hurts, unhealed wounds, and deep vulnerabilities into focus during the upcoming lunar cycle, allowing us to recognize and attend to the parts of ourselves that need attention, presence, and nurturing, and to develop a new relationship with the medicine we can offer the world. Themes related to self-affirmation, protecting ourselves, and trusting our anger and desires are emphasized.
Chiron, the Sun, and the Moon in Aries are also closely associated with the slow-moving dwarf planet Eris, named after the mythological goddess of chaos and discord, famous for her role in starting the Trojan War. Eris takes over 550 years to complete its journey through the Zodiac and has been in Aries since 1925. In astrology, it is associated with the impulse to reveal inconvenient truths and disrupt false harmonies. Eris is a devious goddess who stirs up conflict not to create chaos, but to bring out the dynamics that already exist but are not openly acknowledged. It also relates to how we deal with experiences of being shunned, excluded, or ignored, which may be the focus of attention for the coming month.
The activation of Eris and Chiron can cause strong emotional reactions. This configuration encourages us to pay attention to how we can silence ourselves in order to maintain peace or belong, and to be aware of our impulses to create conflict and destruction for its own sake.. Eris’s powerful expression teaches us to be radically honest and unapologetic about our desires, while revealing what needs to change so that something more authentic can emerge.
New Moon square Pluto and Jupiter
The Sun, Moon, Chiron, and Eris in the last degrees of Aries make a wide square to Pluto in Cancer and in the first degrees of Aquarius and Jupiter.
Square Pluto contributes to heightening our emotions and invites us to find the deeper reasons behind our instinctive reactions. Pluto activation is an opportunity to change the way we relate to our emotions and triggers, become more aware of the nature of our desires, and explore the unconscious motivations, fears, and needs that drive our actions. While planets in Aries emphasize individuality and independence, a Pluto square in Aquarius can show where our personal desires collide with group expectations or collective pressures.
The square to Jupiter heightens our sensitivity and our need for true belonging, connection and security. Jupiter’s activation increases our need for emotional security and intimacy: these squares highlight the tension between our desire to honor what we need and want, and knowing how our choices and actions affect those closest to us.
Mars conjuncts Mercury, Saturn and Neptune in Aries
When the New Moon appears in Aries, the sign’s ruler Mars conjoins Mercury, Saturn, and Neptune in Aries. Mars is also sextile with Pluto and Uranus in Aquarius at 29º Taurus. The conjunction of Mars, Saturn, Mercury, and Neptune will make this New Moon and the upcoming month even more complicated.
Although Mars is at home in Aries, its position between Neptune and Saturn adds more restraint and confusion to the usual directness and desire to act. Neptune’s activation can blur boundaries, lose our motivations, and foster artistic inspiration and creativity in a general sense of disorientation. At the same time, Saturn’s closeness to Mars emphasizes the need to act maturely and responsibly as it heightens our tendencies to self-doubt, self-censor, and suppress our reactions to instinct and natural anger.
Mercury also conjuncts Mars and Saturn and Neptune, emphasizing the need to speak our truth but choose our words wisely. These alignments emphasize the need to coordinate our thoughts, words, intentions, and actions. Sextiles between planets in Aries, Pluto, and Uranus support our ability to empower ourselves through action and make changes that reflect our identity and authenticity.
New Moon in Aries: Healing through action
The Aries New Moon is an opportunity to rediscover what it means to lead, take initiative, create our own path, and trust our desires. It’s an invitation to reconnect with ourselves, our needs and desires, and get clear on the direction we’re headed. The New Moon in Aries encourages us to trust our instincts, to dare to act even if we don’t have a complete plan yet, even if we don’t have perfect clarity.
These days, we’re reminded that sometimes healing happens through action, doing, taking risks, telling the truth, and showing up when we’re not ready. We learn how old traumas affect our choices and expressions. We will have opportunities to shed light on what has long been neglected or suppressed, to challenge old patterns and establish new ones. This New Moon encourages us to recognize where we have compromised in speaking our truth in order to be accepted or to belong, and invites us to take the first step towards expressing ourselves more fully and unapologetically.
