Recurrent Transits in Astrology – The Astrology Podcast

With astrologers Chris Brennan and Nick Dagan Best, an introduction to an obscure but powerful timing technique called recurrence transits, which occur when certain planetary alignments in a natal chart repeat with transits in the sky.

Unlike standard transits that form aspects to specific points in the natal chart, a recurring transit occurs when a planetary plane found in the natal chart repeats between those two planets in the sky. For example, if a person is born with a Venus-Jupiter conjunction in their birth chart, an important event will happen in their life in the future when Venus and Jupiter form a conjunction again in the sky.

The episode uses the analogy that specific planetary alignments in a birth chart act like a personal theme song; when the planets repeat the same alignment in the sky, it’s as if the same music begins to play again, and it marks an important turning point where the natal potential of the birth sign is awakened through resonance between the past and the future.

The episode opens with an exploration of the history and transmission of a technique currently relatively unknown in the English-speaking world. Nick talks about how he learned the method from the late Michael Lutin in the 1990s, while Chris goes back to early 20th century German astrology and ancient Hellenistic texts such as Vettius Valens.

A key point highlighted in the morning is how the recurrences of mundane planets work independently of natal aspects of birth, forcing a conceptual expansion of what defines a transit, and showing how planetary cycles can be linked to important turning points in life even without direct contact with natal chart placement.

To demonstrate the technique in action, most of the episode is spent presenting biographical examples as examples, focusing primarily on connections to keep things simple and engaging.

Case studies include the technological breakthroughs of Steve Jobs and Max Planck, the artistic heights of Vincent van Gogh and Madonna, and the political rise and fall of figures like Richard Nixon and Joe Biden.

The workshop will also look at how retrogrades can amplify and amplify the significance of certain recurring transits, as seen in the lives of Edward Snowden and Charles Manson, and we’ll also touch on common recurrences in relationships such as Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love.

The talk concludes with a broader philosophical discussion of what this method implies about the nature of astrology, the theory of simulation, and the definition of astrology as a map of time.

This episode provides a comprehensive framework for understanding repeated transits, providing astrologers and students with a powerful, empirical tool for predictive work and biographical analysis that complements traditional methods.
