Approaching the present with a long-term view

In true Capricorn fashion, I’m thinking about the future (semi-long term plans) with today’s New Moon. We are getting closer and closer to the most concentrated astrological weather of 2026, which will take place between the last two weeks of February and the first two weeks of March.

During this four-week period, we experience a clear conjunction of Saturn-Neptune at 0° Aries, along with eclipse season and the first Mercury retrograde of 2026. Starting with the New Moon Eclipse on February 17, these three major astrological events coincide.

Why is this important today?

The energy of today’s New Moon is generally very harmonious. All the planets from the Sun to Pluto (except Jupiter) are within the long-term talent triangle that the outer planets have been holding for the past year. Also, Mercury, Venus and Mars are no longer out of bounds.

Together – with a strong emphasis on Capricorn – this chart offers the opportunity to see things from a clearer, more realistic and grounded perspective.

One of the qualities I associate with Capricorn is subtlety: calmness, honesty, and a sense of calmness. It is the energy to do something deliberately and with intention rather than being impulsive or reactive.

As we approach the more concentrated astrological energy that comes with the next New Moon, today’s moon offers an opportunity to get your attention. You can use this moment to consciously coordinate your efforts, clarify your direction and strive for what is really important – a purposeful and long-term perspective.

Chronos, god of time

In Greek mythology, Chronos is one of the gods associated with time, the passage of time, and the limitations of time. As the main earth sign, Capricorn shares this insight – an innate understanding of the limitations and practical realities of time.

Because of this alert awareness, which is more realistic than idealistic, Capricorn often approaches life with seriousness and purpose. This can also apply to his creative process and creative results.

One of the recommendations for Capricorn-influenced charts is to consciously recognize victories. Capricorn’s energy is often so focused on getting to the top that it can overlook how much of the mountain has already been climbed.

As we experience this moment in time, it can be especially helpful to recognize what has been accomplished in relation to your long-term goals. Pursuing long-term visions can sometimes feel overwhelming, daunting, or even hopeless. But when you take a step back and see where you are on the mountain, you realize you’ve gone much further than you first thought.

Practical exercise for the new moon in Capricorn

This New Moon favors deliberate, grounded action over setting lofty intentions.

1. Find yourself on a (metaphorical) mountain
Choose a long-term goal that you are working toward. Write down what you’ve accomplished, the skills you’ve acquired, and the challenges you’ve navigated. Recognize your progress.

2. Name this season
Ask yourself: what does this step require of me?
Is it time to build, clean, relax or prepare?

3. Choose one intentional action
Before the next New Moon, choose one realistic, sustainable action that will support your long-term vision.

4. Decide how to present yourself
Choose one word that represents a quality you want to embody moving forward (eg, honesty, patience, discipline).

This new moon in Capricorn is an invitation to move forward with clarity, calmness and respect for the time needed to build something meaningful.
