July 14, 2026, 05:43 EST, New Moon begins at 21º58′ Cancer. This phenomenon invites us to return to our softness, to honor our emotional rhythms, and to practice moving forward at a pace that allows us to be in touch with ourselves and the emotions that arise.
The Cancer New Moon is especially important for people born with a personal placement in the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn). This lunation is more emotional for them and asks them to explore relationship issues, family dynamics, work-life balance, and a new approach to self-expression. They have the ability to change their attitude towards their feelings, express their needs and weaknesses.

New Moons: Honoring the cyclical nature of time
The cycles of the moon are a reflection of the cyclical nature of time and life. Managing the ebb and flow of our emotions with intention teaches us to be at peace with what is and to move through the phases of expansion and contraction, ups and downs, without becoming overly attached to any particular situation. As we connect with the waxing and waning of the moon, we learn to be less judgmental about our feelings and more compassionate toward ourselves: we learn that there is nothing to fix, no problem to solve.
The moon has been slowly disappearing from the night sky for the past two weeks, inviting us to turn inward, slow down the pace of our outer activities, and pay more attention to what is moving in our inner, emotional lives. When the new moon appears, it will still be invisible, but will soon be visible again and will receive more and more light until the next full moon peaks in Aquarius on July 29th.
New Moons are moments of new birth and renewal that mark powerful new beginnings and usher in a new lunar cycle. The current New Moon takes place in Cancer, the Moon’s domicile. The Sun and Moon meet in the third decan of Cancer, the beginning of the month aimed at renewing how we deal with our emotions and vulnerabilities and improving our ability to express what we feel and need.
New Moon in Cancer: New House Definitions
The Moon is at home in the Cardinal Water sign of Cancer, the sign it rules. Both Cancer and the Moon relate to our instinctive emotional responses, our need for security and belonging, and our ability to nurture and nurture. They both relate to the realm of emotions, memory, family, our past, and our roots. The Moon in Cancer invites us to turn inward and connect with what is happening in our emotional world.
When the Sun and Moon meet in Cancer, we enter a lunar month focused on creating new definitions of home, family, belonging, and security. It is an invitation to learn new ways to care for ourselves and others, new ways to express and attend to our emotional needs, and new ways to create a deeper inner security regardless of external circumstances. This new moon highlights the importance of home as not just a physical place, but as a feeling, a state of being, an inner sanctuary where safety is present and accessible.
Cancer and the Moon are associated with both the mother archetype and our inner child. Our inner mother represents our ability to hold space for our inner child’s feelings with patience, care, compassion, and determination. This new moon invites us to strengthen the relationship between our inner child and inner mother and to pay more attention to how we take care of ourselves in times of vulnerability and create emotional security for ourselves.
The New Moon conjuncts retrograde Mercury, square Saturn
The Sun and Moon in Cancer are conjunct Mercury retrograde and all square Saturn in Aries. Mercury’s closeness to the Sun and Moon clearly invites us to work on improving how we communicate what we feel, need, and feel. As we move through Messenger retrograde, we have the opportunity to deepen our self-observation and realize how we are being asked to change the way we communicate and think. This configuration is an invitation to see how our inner narratives shape our perception of reality and to express inner experiences that are usually hard to put into words.
Saturn’s activation encourages us to pay attention to the defense mechanisms and defense strategies we rely on when we feel uncomfortable, affected, vulnerable, or agitated.. The square between the New Moon and Saturn asks us to notice our tendencies to suppress emotions or hide vulnerability, and to realize that our boundaries have become walls that separate us from others. As Saturn rules Capricorn, which is associated with the past, this configuration invites us to pay attention to our automatic reliance on ways of being that are the result of childhood trauma and past conditioning. This new moon is a great time to start creating new habits and rewriting the narratives that keep us in repetitive cycles.
Venus is on the strong side this New Moon
Currently in Virginia, Venus is conjunct the South Node of the Moon and squares Mars and Uranus in Gemini. Venus close to the South Node highlights the karmic nature of these days, especially in the area of relationships. Fateful encounters, moments of déjà vu, and strangely familiar experiences or connections can show us something we need to address, empowering us to recognize patterns we rely on under stress, and asking us to step away from overwhelmed relationship dynamics.
The activation of Mars and Uranus, still prevalent in Gemini and the Moon square to the Nodes, adds more instability to the cosmic atmosphere. Common impulsivity, mental restlessness, and desire for change collide with our needs for safety and familiarity. We can be torn between the desire to break free from old habits and ways of being, and the desire to hold on to what is safe and known. The suggestion for us is to avoid acting immediately on every impulse and to remember that any feeling of discomfort does not mean that we need to make drastic changes.
Venus is quincunx, as well as Neptune in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius: these alignments create Yod, which is the focal point of Venus. Also known as the “finger of God,” this configuration points to the need to reconcile paradoxical needs and desires that affect our love, our relationships with others, and our organization of values and priorities. While active Neptune challenges us to let go of old ideals, illusions, and hopes, Pluto’s square to Venus calls for radical transparency and asks us to address our low self-esteem issues.
This Yod makes profound changes in how we show up in relationships, our values, and how we treat money. As Venus is in Virgo, there is a need for clearing and cleansing, which calls for discerning what aligns with our well-being and our soul’s deepest purpose, and what we instead pursue out of habit, fear, or conditioning.
New Moon in Cancer: Return to softness
The upcoming lunar cycle gives us an opportunity to learn to slow down enough to listen to what our emotions are telling us and develop a new relationship with our inner world, our needs, and our sensitivities. It is an invitation to return to our softness, to create more space for rest and nourishment, to focus on being and feeling more than doing and achieving. These days we are encouraged to discover what happens when we honor our emotional needs and rhythms and act in harmony with them rather than resisting them.
The Cancer New Moon reminds us that there are times to move forward and times to retreat. There is a time to move and a time to pause, a time to be in the world and just be with ourselves. This phenomenon reminds us that slowing down is not a sign of weakness or stagnation, and rest is a necessary part of growth. Next month we have an opportunity to build a new relationship with our inner world and welcome our feelings with curiosity rather than judgment. Ultimately, this new moon asks us to move at a pace that allows us to connect with ourselves, our needs, and our emotions. Returning to our gentleness and reconnecting with the wisdom of the heart, we prepare the inner space for the awakening of a new fire. As the portal of the Lion’s Gate approaches, we invite you to tend to the heart before entering the fire.
